Indigo Ocean has written an interesting post about using stories to heal children - "helping the child restory his/her experience, transforming dysfunctional stories that have supported the problem into empowering ones that support the child's goals for health."
Is it any wonder that an approach like NT would be effective in treating the descendents of a culture that relates to its world through mythic creation stories? Don't get me wrong, I'm not knocking the Age of Reason. I'm just rejecting its tyranny. Different problems require different solutions. In this case, it is more about different ways of thinking requiring different treatment approaches. The western psychology emphasis on analyzing problems and reasoning clients into health has not proven effective with disenfranchised peoples in the United States or New Zealand, nor I suspect anywhere in the world.
