Everytime I look at reports on the fact that the heatwave in France has killed 11,435 in two weeks I have trouble comprehending that figure. Imagine what 11,435 dead bodies look like in a pile and imagine that happening mostly because no one noticed that it was!
The same goes for the hundreds of thousands of civilians killed in Rwanda. That is HUNDREDS of thousands - lots and lots and lots of innocent people.
Yet neither of these have the same impact on the collective psyche as the events of the 11th of September two years ago.
