Gary is troubled and that ain't good

MSN's decision to close it's chatrooms troubles me. There's a conflict between the unmanaged nature of the Web that helped build it to what it is, and the freedom it grants to those of an anti-social disposition whether they be spammers, virus writers or those that like to prey upon our children in chatrooms.

It's going to be hard to resist regulation and laws over the coming months and years and I wonder what kind of effect this may have on the future direction the Web.

The Web is renowned for its bullet-proof redundancy and fault-tolerance but I guess that this may just be one fault it's no longer able to tolerate.
