Taking responsibility

In my son’s Karate class, one of the things his instructor teaches is the difference between mistakes and bad choices. Mistakes occur unintentionally, innocently and sometimes in ways that are not even realized. Bad choices, on the other hand, are entirely under your own control. With a choice, you choose the direction in which to go versus a mistake which is an unfortunate thing that occurs at a time when you have every intention of doing the right thing. Mistakes are usually forgiven. Bad choices come with consequences.
