Troubled by progress

I am increasingly made uneasy by the headlong rush of my fellow human beings towards "progress".

For much of the world this appears to entail building huge metal and glass, phallic, corporate buildings on the ruins if indigenous architecture, filling the lower floors of said buildings with endless sparkling glass shrines to global brands in which it seems impossible to actually find anything one would actually want to buy on a day to day basis and filling every bloody available aural space with canned music interrupted by frenetic American accents!

While evangelising about our online world and the global conversations that it enables I sometimes worry that it's anarchic nature threatens to undermine and fragment many of the assumptions on which progress relies.

And then I stop worrying .....
