My wife Penny and I were lucky enough to attend an early screening of David Mackenzie's new film Hallam Foe last night and as Hugh says I really did think it was one of the best films I have seen in ages. Beautifully acted, beautifully filmed and with lingering repercussions that have been with me all day today.
It is no secret that we were getting treated to this evening as a way of spreading the word about the film but to be honest David was taking a big risk. We could have hated it - it wasn't even finished - and a sound trashing by a bunch of bloggers would have been the last thing he wanted. Johnnie Moore wrote that it was a very bloggy sort of thing to do. We throw things up half formed for public consumption and enjoy the conversations that ensue as much as the creation of a finished article.
I really do think the film is going to do very well and yet again proves that European film makers can make Hollywood look very hackneyed and jaded.
