Small but perfectly formed

Thanks to the good auspices of David Sumner-Smith of The Telegraph Business Club I have delivered a couple of speeches to groups of SME's in Manchester and Birmingham this week with one in London coming up next week.

To be honest I wasn't sure how I would go down with the audience as I usually focus on internal corporate use of social computing in my workshops and as I have written before I am not sure whether SME's need that sort of stuff. However this time I focussed on the external networking and marketing aspects of blogs, forums and wikis as well and people were very responsive.

What struck me though was how focussed they were. Bright folks taking risks with minimal resources and lots of great ideas. Without wishing to alienate any of my corporate clients it was a world away from big business with its layers of decision makers, remoteness from the customer and less balls than your average castrato.
