Someone asked me the other day why SME's hadn't adopted social computing as they seemed like likely candidates. I suggested that it was because in themselves they are not large enough to generate the critical mass to get these sorts of things started and nor were they big enough to have serious enough communications problems to make them necessary.
It then occurred to me that there might be space for pan SME use of social computing. A bit like the old guild system small firms across a particular industry or discipline could share non competitive stuff on a closed network of forums, blogs and wikis to mutual benefit.
I then thought how it would be cool if someone came up with social computing on the web aimed at specific interest groups like industry groups, pensioners, single mums or whatever. I know there are already community sites and boards for some of these but more of a MySpace for grown ups hasn't really been done yet as far as I know.
