Haves and have nots

As I made my way though the Port Authority bus station in New York last night heading for my Greyhound bus I was struck by a similarity between NY and Cairo. The gap between the haves and the have nots is enormous. OK the Americans may be higher up the overall sliding scale but there is still a bloody huge gap between those we tend to see in the media and on holidays and the America I saw yesterday.

[As an aside I thought I was looking for somewhere called Port Tory and happily conversed with various people using that phrase - no doubt sounding like a native New Yorker - until I saw the sign on the building and realised my mistake]
